An ophthalmologist (oculist) is a doctor who specializes in the prevention and treatment of various eye diseases, both congenital and acquired.

A consultation with an ophthalmologist may be necessary if the following symptoms appear:

  • vision clearly deteriorates – it becomes difficult to distinguish objects from close and distant distances;
  • the mucous membrane of the eyelids becomes inflamed and swollen;
  • the white of the egg dries out or turns red;
  • “cuts” the eye for more than a day;
  • the pupil is deformed – it narrows, expands, loses shape;
  • lacrimation increases, pus appears;
  • the cornea becomes cloudy.

An ophthalmologist consultation is extremely necessary for people suffering from kidney inflammation, atherosclerosis, hypertension, and diabetes. After all, these are the diseases that lead to the development of pathologies of the visual system. An examination by an ophthalmologist is also recommended for all young women planning their pregnancy, and employees whose work is associated with a high load on the eyes (drivers, programmers).

An ophthalmologist consultation in Kiev includes studying the patient’s medical history, analyzing complaints, performing a primary eye examination, and determining visual acuity. To make an accurate diagnosis, a number of additional examinations may be required, such as:

  • tonometry – measures the internal eye pressure;
  • biomicroscopy – a thorough examination of the eyes under magnification using slit lamps;
  • skiascopy – pupil refraction is examined;
  • ophthalmoscopy – the fundus of the eye is examined.

Modern diagnostics and medical equipment for eye treatment allow improving and restoring vision without surgical intervention. Each case is unique, so the patient should learn the methods and ways of treating his visual system directly at the ophthalmologist’s appointment.
